“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim
liberty to the captives
and recovering of
sight to the blind,
to set at liberty
those who are oppressed,

what it Takes

The Lovelady Center is currintly home to over 200 women and 50 children who live at the facility full time. Over the summer months the number of children reaches as high as 100.

Just last year :

  • We provided 153,300 nights of shelter.
  • We served 459,900 cooked meals.
  • We provided 6,000 hours of counseling and
    case management
  • We provided over 300 Christmas gifts to children in our center. The response was so incredible that an overage of gifts received were funneled to those in need outside of the center.
  • We assisted over 250 women in finding employment in the community, while working The Lovelady Center program.
  • We baptized over 100 people who found new life in Christ!

We currently invest about $840 per month in creating space where God can change the life of one resident. We're far more economical than prison, drug rehabilitation, and therapy - and the change we facilitate is eternal.

The great news is that as our
enrollment goes up (we could house upwards of 100 more women and children) our fixed costs will remain the same. In other words, we could change even more lives with greater effectiveness by pulling together to accomplish more.

What is on the horizon to help change lives?

  • A career training school that will be open to the surrounding neighborhood.
  • A homeownership program that will empower families to move out of The Lovelady Center into their own home!
  • An after school program and summer education for kids
  • Businesses run form the center - to give women on-the-job training in a variety of creative fields.
  • The Lovelady Choir, which will help unleash the musical talents of many of our women!

Of course, you cannot put a price tag on a second start, another chance - even though dollars must be invested to facilitate the environment in which this life change occurs. The $2,000,000 it takes to run The Lovelady Center for one full year is staggering - but it breaks down like this:

  • For $25 a month (the cost of an Internet connection), you can provide the educational materials for one woman - for her entire stay at The Lovelady Center.
  • For $50 a month (the amount many people routinely spend at Starbuck's over a 30-day period), you can feed one woman and child.
  • For $75 a month (the average power bill in Alabama), you can provide the staffing needed to help teach, counsel shepherd, advocate, and attend to the nursing needs of one woman and child.

Will you change a life ?
